Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

I don't know if this is still the case, but it used to be an issue of pages actually breaking. That is, the more words the page had to load the more chance of glitchiness. Separating tropes into folders eased it, but on works with lots, and lots, and LOTS of tropes they eventually had to split off separate pages.
I don't think there's necessarily any hard and fast rule as to when you're supposed to do it. Generally I think you use your own judgment.
^ That issue still exists.
But yeah, it's a judgement call. People don't usually like it if you change a small page to use folder markup, but once it gets bigger it's accpeted.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallWell, not really. I'd say it's readability first, and if a page needs it for technical issues, it's probably also hard to read anyway.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallFolders are for readability, example subpages are for technical limitations.

I see people using folders to sequester tropes inside, from A-E, F-M, N-Z, etc. Then I see others using seperate pages for the same.
When do we use either? Are there any guidelines? Or is it just 'whatever improves readability'?
