Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Always Female (or Always Male) isn't a literal statement- it doesn't exclude the Rare Male Example from existing, but the stereotype is a feminine one and thus the trope is about girls 99% of the time.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallQuote from Always Female: An index of character archetypes that are female at least 90% of the time.

Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.Alpha Bastard is a redirect to Alpha Bitch. Isn't linking a trope in the description of that trope a no-no?
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. In general, this looks like a question for Trope Talk.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'll definitely use Trope Talk in future (I wasn't sure whether to ask here or there this time), but it looks like my question has been answered so I won't start one on this topic.
Thanks for the responses, everyone.
Edited by Wyldchyld If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Apologies for opening this back up, but I'm a little confused about what the general consensus is here. Have we decided that Alpha Bitch can indeed be applicable to males (thus the existence of Alpha Bastard)? Because I've wanted to include a male example with this trope before but didn't know Alpha Bastard existed.
And another thing—if Alpha Bastard exists, should there also be Academic Alpha Bastard? The description of Academic Alpha Bitch actually says that in rare cases males fulfill the role, but as you can see, there's no redirect.
Edited by CyokieRevottThe indexes Always Male and Always Female are for tropes that are strongly gendered. However, one way a creator can play with a trope is to make them a Distaff Counterpart or Spear Counterpart, which means that tropes that are male-gendered (or female-gendered) can apply to characters of the opposite gender, as well as other genders or even no gender at all.

I noticed in passing on the Is This An Example? thread that an observation was made that Alpha Bitch is always female. However, the trope description itself states 'almost always female' (confusingly, with a pothole to Always Female) and goes on to state that there are rare cases of Alpha Bastards. There is an existing redirect for Alpha Bastard (there are 21 links). The comment about the Alpha Bastard existing was added in 2012, so it's been around for a long time, but not as long as the trope itself has existed.
So, is it an Always Female trope or is it definitely the case that rare Alpha Bastard examples can indeed exist?
