Going by the trope definition, Rare Guns is about "Models and types of guns that saw little to no production in reality", but are still commonly used in a work.
I'm not really one of the "gun people" so I don't know what the current status of the AK-12 is, but if it has actually been adopted into mainline service I don't think it qualifies as a Rare Gun, unless the example is from a work that takes place before this happened. For present-day works, Cool Guns seems more appropriate.
Edited by GnomeTitanMost works featured in that example were released during the AK-12's Rare times, since the rifle was only very recently managed to be introduced into mainline service after some very rough Development Hell. Another problem now is do we want to migrate these examples over if we decide to move the AK-12 to Cool Guns or do we simply make a duplicate folder to differentiate works that used the rifle back when it was rare versus newer works when the rifle becomes more common.
^^The same phenomenon (the rifle in this case) can exemplify different tropes depending on how the work treats it. So I think that the best solution would probably be to keep the examples under Rare Guns for works that take place before the AK-12 went mainline, and put more recent examples in Cool Guns.
In other words, it's the work's context that determines whether it's a rare gun or a cool one, and I see no problem with both tropes being applied to the AK-12.

In light of the fact that Russia has finally managed to adopt the AK-12 into mainline service, should it be moved from Rare Guns status and into more conventional Cool Guns status?
The actual example itself also highlights this fact, so I question the current validity of its "rare" status.
