Oh, so I'm not the only one who got the captcha. I was worried I might have gotten a virus or something. After I solved it the first time, I logged out of my account and back in, but now it says I can't make any edits because of security risks. It happened on both Firefox and Microsoft Edge.
At least, I hope it's not a virus.

I'm assuming it's related to the problems that the site has had over the past few weeks.
It's a standard captcha. Yeah, it's a little annoying, but it is what it is.

No, here's the text I'm getting now.
"This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks. The action you just performed triggered the security solution. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data."
All I did was log out of my account and log back in. It said to send the Cloudflare Ray ID to the site owner. I'm not having this problem on other sites and I performed several virus scans, both in and out of safe mode. Something's up.

Update: Okay, I can edit again after solving captchas again. It's weird, I think there was an issue with doing certain edits that accidentally triggered something (I was attempting to delete double parenthesis and change a namespace at the same time when I triggered the message). So maybe keep an eye on what type of edits for the next few days.
Same on the "Not every edit triggers it".
I guess this is a good reason to save edits until you have a large batch.

I've communicated this to the admins - we did enable various firewall rules, but, per admins, captcha is not an intended consequence. Working on it.
We had some hackers try to break into tvtropes this week by sending hundreds of thousands of requests with various SQL statements. Thankfully they weren't successful. We are working on fine tuning some firewall rules to stop this but finding a balance to not trigger a captcha for everyone. I'll reduce the sensitivity a bit that should reduce it. Please update here if you keep seeing a captcha

Got on while attempting to preview edits on Web Video— possibly because I've edited it multiple times previously, it could have looked questionable to our robot overlords.
Covered in Star Wars Cleanup, Deadpool, and Web Video sand. I'm not coarse and rough, but I get everywhere.

I got a captcha just now as well; just reporting it since ~itcdr asked.
It's an annoyance, but an acceptable one if it keeps bad actors out, I suppose. Thanks for your work on the site and your quick response to this query!
Edit: Made another edit as a test and did not get re-captcha'd. I'll let y'all know if it recurs.

I had them twice now with the edits being many minutes apart. Shouldn't you target quick succession edits instead?

Just got captcha'd at YMMV.Persona 1. As for quick succession edits, I don't know if those should be targeted, that could make wick cleanups highly irritating (unless it's some bot-level speed, like 8 edits per minute and higher).

Got it when both previewing and confirming an edit, which wouldn't faze me that much if the captcha wasn't stuck on loading (not sure if anyone shares this problem or if it's just my browser/add-ons acting up). R.i.p the time I invested in proofreading and adding things to the page I was on.
[edit] Finally saw an edit go through without captcha showing up showing up after a few failed attempts at multiple pages.

I just got one making some formatting edits.
I understand that bot protection is a necessity, but having to click a bunch of blurry images that contain the same thing seems like overkill.
