Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
It's not cut, it was just sent back to the TLP so you can work on it more.
In general, going with the "3 examples" rule almost never actually leads to a thriving trope. 3 examples is the bare minimum. It's always best to give a trope plenty of time to simmer before launching it. I tend to wait until the feedback and examples stop coming, which implies there's nothing left to do.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallThat's still an undercooked draft. "5 or 6" is not "far more" than three examples, and the state of the draft after launch doesn't justify a premature launch, it just means you should've polished it beforehand and then waited to see if people had any more feedback.
See TLP Guidelines; it's explained there.
Edited by WarJay77 Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallIt's also generally discouraged to launch a trope without giving some notice on the draft, in case people have any last-minute concerns.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I don't know why we still say a draft only needs three examples to be launched when it's plainly untrue. The rules as actually enforced require a draft to meet the Standing status as detailed on Wick — that's 12 examples.
If anything, three examples is the minimum for creating a draft.
Edited by wingedcatgirl Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.^ That's definitely outdated. Pretty much none of the actual rules say it, but the launching message is woefully behind the times.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallExactly. More examples are always better, as the more examples you have, the stronger your draft is.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallThe de facto minimum-example requirement is a total of 20 wicks (which also includes all that draft's super- and sub-tropes), if I remember correctly.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaYou should polish then publish, not publish then polish. It should be in a polished state prior to launch.
Covered in Star Wars Cleanup, Deadpool, and Web Video sand. I'm not coarse and rough, but I get everywhere. There's an "outdated pages
" thread, and one of the pages it updated was Administrivia.TLP Guidelines. Sadly, the thread can't update the little popup text boxes on TLP drafts that explain what hats and the launch button are for, as that takes the computer programmers of TV Tropes.

Note: This page was cut for reason: This one needs more time to cook in the oven. It technically passes all requirements of having a minimum of three examples and enough upvotes to launch it, but the draftee launched it as soon as possible without bothering to polish it up.

So...it didn't actually break any rules, but it was cut anyway.
And for the record, I published the trope, and then polished it up immediately.
This doesn't seem fair.
