Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I'm fairly positive it is, but if it's not it's heavily encouraged and is often the only way to get a page to experience some wiki-magic. It's more important with new tropes, but it's also very important for work pages.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallThe problem is that it's hard to enforce. You either need to be checking all the new pages every day to make sure everyone is crosswicking or you have to try and play catch up; either way it's not like indentation or grammar where you can just skim someone's edits to see if the problem exists or not.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallIt's required enough that Cross Wicking is an Administrivia page and we have a notifier specifically for it, if nothing else. So definitely send the notifier to whoever created the page and/or has been its most frequent editors.
^^ Not exactly what you're talking about, but we do have a thread
for pages that need crosswicking.
There's also Pages Needing Wicks and Needs Wiki Magic Love. (Edit: Why are those in Main/?)
Anyway, I once had the wonderful idea to just go on a crosswicking spree for random work pages, but I never got around to it...
Edited by WarJay77 Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI recently rewatched Curfew and decided to add some more trope examples to the show's page. I later decided to cross-wick the examples because I thought I should. When I did that, I thought it was only appropriate to insert more context on the trope pages than the work page because I thought that a casual reader could infer more context from the other examples on the work page. Does anyone else feel that way?
^ Definitely a good idea. While I generally think all examples should stand on their own regardless of what page they're on, adding new context can be really helpful.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallAgreed. I'm usually more detailed on trope pages than on work pages for that reason. If an example on a work page refers to a character, their role in the story is probably explained at the top of the page (and explaining said role in every single trope example on the page that applies to that character will make it unbearably repetitive), but on a trope page, it's prudent to explain the role the character plays in the story if it's relevant to how the trope applies to them. (Which is one drawback to potential automatic cross-wicking systems, even if they would solve the problem of low levels of cross-wicking.)
That said, I'm one of the people who put as much context as possible no matter where the example is being posted so it's not a big a deal for me, but yeah.
Point is, Crosswicking is always encouraged even if not explicitly enforced- and it should be done in such a way that it doesn't leave people confused.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallCrosswicking is, at the very least, helpful for the purpose of integrating a new work page or trope into the rest of the wiki. It also opens up the possibility that anyone learns about that page and shows some Wiki Love to it (I'm speaking per my experience here).

Endark Culi created a page for Tokyo Tattoo Girls, which itself has sufficient content. However, they only made 3 cross-wicks. Two of them are indexing and one trope was cross-wicked.
I was going to send a notifier, but realized I didn't know if this was actually against the rules.
