Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Once it has a works page, yes. But since they are currently naked links, the only way to find them is to do a search and hope they're all caught. Which will be annoying.
I mean, that's the plan, because I don't see any better way to do it, but it will still be annoying.
Oh, and the majority of them are just quotes, not examples. So that makes it hard too.
Edited by Discar Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. For the summary, what about something like
Yes, it's barebones and needs context (who is Captain Proton? from a cursory search, he doesn't seem to be from the movie. is he an original character? a character crossing over from another work?) but it gets the job done. As long as the page has a description and three non-ZC examples, it can stay.
What I would call the "better way to do it" is a Red Link. Those 471 results should be linking to the fanfic page. That way, https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/relatedsearch.php?term=Fanfic/Plan7OfNineFromOuterSpace
would actually tell you where examples/wicks are.
This is something I do with other works. I start with a search for the title on tv tropes, make sure they wick to the (non-existent) work page, and copy the example to a Google Doc. I do a bit of internet research to get context on when the work was released and get an idea on the packaging/marketing, then I (re-)read the work, clean the google doc draft, and upload the page. Link to TRS threads in project mode here.
Agreed with that idea of wick searching and copying, though I'd recommend using Notepad++ instead of Google Doc as it's more efficient at handling wiki markup and plain text (I don't use Word either for a similar reason). As for calling the page, use Fanfic.Plan 7 Of 9 From Outer Space because it's better to use numbers wherever possible and that potential page name of Fanfic.Plan 7 Of Nine From Outer Space is inconsistent (it's not like it would not require custom titling anyway).
Edited by Piterpicher Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods Of Incremental)Alright, made the page, managed to scrounge up three examples, and wicked everywhere I could. Ended up with 101 wicks (plus the index)... ninety-nine of which were quotes without context.
Who the hell has been pimping this work like this for so long?
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. In at least one case, the author themselves. They added a page quote
from it for Touch of the Monster back in 2014.
Quote Source is good. It's where I got the first few wicks. Most of these were on quotes pages.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Huh. It's not indexing? Not sure why the works on Quote Source are excluded from index tags, when that's the opposite of how the subpages handle it.
So like... I clicked several at random (Chest Burster, Laugh Themselves Sick, Mysterious Antarctica, Stock Footage Failure, Wakeup Makeup). Laugh Themselves Sick was added by Jack G; the other 4 were all by the fic author, Odon.
^^'Twasn't indexing on Quote Source because the link hadn't been changed to the work page link. I fixed it.
Bumping to ask — Jack G has added a very capitalized and blue-link-filled description to Plan 7 of 9 from Outer Space. Should this...be trimmed down somehow?

Short version: For years, someone has been writing examples for a work that genuinely exists, but does not have a works page, and I'd like to finally give it a page.
Long version: Plan 7 of 9 From Outer Space
is a fanfic of Plan 9 from Outer Space. It's got plenty of examples around the wiki, including some page quotes. Doing a search for "Plan 7 of 9 from Outer Space" gives 471 results. But for some reason, no one ever bothered giving it an actual page, so none of those examples actually link anywhere. So after a page is created, we need to go around actually creating those links, which is going to be far more annoying than it has any right to be.
So, has anybody actually read this fic and can make a page for it at Fanfic.Plan 7 Of Nine From Outer Space? Because I don't know enough about it to even make a basic summary (and the summary on the site isn't enough for a page description), and would prefer not to have to read an eleven year-old fic for a film I don't care about.
I mean, I will if no one has read this thing, but I'd prefer not to.
