Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I think they count. Administrivia.Tropes Are Flexible after all.
Edited by MacronNotes Macron's notesYep. It's absolutely fine.
The description mentions "the pre-television history of this trope," which at the very least implies that this trope is not specific to television shows. Also, there are dozens of categories of examples, including movies.
I've always thought of this as "any non-extant work within an extant work," but it looks like there are specific subtropes for video games and for some reason soap operas within a TV series (and then there's School Play). I wonder if there's a missing supertrope and the "sub"-tropes are actually sister tropes (excluding Soap Within a Show, which is a specific form of a non-extant show within an extant TV show).
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyI think you're right and that we've mostly bodged SWAS as a supertrope without methodically clarifying the relationship between subtropes.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. There is also Fictional Video Game and Fictional Social Network, for that matter, which can count as subtropes too.
Or Amateur Film-Making Plot, Movie-Making Mess, and You Just Ruined the Shot. This needs more discussion than an ATT thread.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I have started a long-term projects thread here. IMO, a long-term project is the appropriate place for not only the perpetual maintenance work but also the clean-up effort. Like, it isn't just the wick clean-up.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettySeems more like a question for trope talk, since it's about trope relationships. Is there evidence that wick cleanup is needed?
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"If the thread changes the relationship between two tropes, then a wick cleanup will be needed, due to previously correct examples needing to be moved.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Yeah, I thought it all went hand in hand. If we change the description, then trope relationships may change. If the relationships change, then wicks will need cleaning. In addition to wicks being cleaned along the way anyways, and in addition to that there's the issue of cleaning up pages for non-extant works, which itself would require the description to be cleared up and discussed. It's all one big circle of ohgodwhy and thankspastusforleavinguswiththis. [rainbow] [fanfare]

Just to be sure, does the Show within a Show only work for tv shows, or can movies also be added to that category?
