I don't think we are particularly consistent, but if you're troping examples from the light novel, I would encourage you to put it in the Literature category.

Honestly, for consistency, I would still label light novels under Anime & Manga, even if some don't have adaptations. The reason is simple: their image has become so synonymous with anime at this point, even borrowing the same art style and story presentation.

Well there a lot of other works in different mediums that are inspired by anime or use the same artstyle and they still get sorted based on format of whatever medium they are

I've seen them get their own folders plenty of times.

Examples go in the Literature folder if not about an Anime/Manga adaptation.
