Character Derailment is Flame Bait and should not have any example (except maybe if it is an In-Universe example). The reason it has examples is because no one has gotten to removing them. Existing exmaples of Character Derailment should get moved to a more suitable trope, if there is one, or just deleted (if there is no suitable trope).

Flame Bait means examples aren't allowed to be elsewhere on the wiki, but I assume it was decided to allow examples subpages. The same is true for Periphery Hatedom and So Bad, It's Horrible.

Horrible is Darth Wiki, that's a separate category. Should Periphery Hatedom go there as well?

And why do Periphery Hatedom and Character Derailment allow examples unlike other Flame Bait? For Periphery Hatedom people not liking a work that's not supposed to appeal to them doesn't seem like a useful note about it's reception that would warrant a trope. Is it because they hate is when you would expect them to just not care?

Update: Unless I hear anything I'll cut the Total Drama All Stars Rewrite as an adaptation, not a in-canon change.

Update: found this under CharacterDerailment.Film

  • Star Wars: In The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, it was initially implied that Rey had no relation or connection to anybody from the original trilogy, and was simply abandoned at a young age. For many fans, the fact that she was just a random nobody thrust into the rebellion conflict (as opposed to being The Chosen One or a main character's daughter) was her most appealing trait, showing that anybody can be The Hero. Unfortunately, The Last Jedi does a complete 180 by revealing that she was Palpatine's granddaughter this entire time, and she was abandoned by her parents so that he couldn't find her, despite the massive logical leaps to justify why he was even still alive by that point, thus ruining a central aspect of Rey's character.

Derailment is about characterization, not backstory. I'll remove unless I hear anything.

Update: cutting per this.
