Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

Unfortunately, what's being claimed is true, as it's frowned upon to spoil out the entire example- mostly because it'd force people to unhide it just to see if they can read it, nullifying the point of the tags.
Still, they're being way rude and out of line.
...That said, you aren't supposed to post the full text of a PM. Privacy concerns.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallBut what if the entire example is a spoiler? And isn't making lots of little spoiler blocks considered messy? Am I seriously in danger of suspension for something so simple and petty? I've seen tons of full-example spoilers all over this wiki. Is this policy new?
And I am choosing to share the PM, because I believe it is helpful information for my problem. It's no different than providing materials that help to tell the full story.
Sorry, I'm just very frustrated. He's treating me like I've been griefing and trolling when all I'm trying to do is be helpful and being concerned for those who haven't read the story yet. There's nothing wrong with that. So what if not everyone is going to check out the story just because they found the page? There's no reason to ruin it for those who do want to read the story. Besides that's why we have the "show spoilers" option.
Edited by MagnusForce "Detecting trace amounts of mental activity. Possibly a dead weasel or a cartoon viewer."^ It's literally against the rules friend, I'm just trying to give you a heads up... (the PM thing, not the spoiler thing)
You're not at risk of being suspended for some overzealous spoiler tags, they're once again minimodding...but it is something you should avoid doing as much as possible.
The ideal is to leave a few words unhidden to give context to people who might want to read the example, but won't spoil anything if left unmarked.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallSharing P Ms isn't allowed for any reasons.
This is the relevant part of the spoiler policy: "Under no circumstances cause the entire text of the example to be in white font, concealing the trope name". Looking at the specific example being talked about I don't think you violated the policy as the important part is that you don't hide the trope name.
^ Mods can read PMs, so for now you might want to paraphrase and let them know they can access the PMs themselves to see what happened.
As for the spoiler thing, yeah, it's not technically policy, which is why I said "frowned upon" and not "against the rules".

I posted this issue a while back
, but Gideoncrawle is getting mad at me again. Here's his message:
"On the Predator and Prey page, you recently added an example of Saying Too Much that had the example text completely spoilered out (when spoilering out two or three words would have sufficed) in violation of this site's spoiler policy. Dude, we've been over this. Spoilering out all, or substanially all, of an example's text is NEVER allowed, because it defeats the purpose of adding the example in the first place. You know this, or should know it, so continuing to post fully-spoilered examples comes across as open defiance of this site's policies. Seriously, are you trying to get suspended? If you're really that concerned about spoilers, wiki policy allows for putting a warning at the top of the examples list, stating "You may encounter unmarked spoilers", or words to that effect. If we do that, though, then the page is not allowed to have any spoiler tags at all, because they would be redundant. We're here to trope works, not advertise them; and hiding all the details to shield people who "haven't read the fic yet" is an advertiser's mindset. The vast majority of people who read a work article on this wiki will never read/view the work itself, so those are the people you should be writing examples for."
Is this legitimately how spoiler policy works with fanfiction?
Rein this man in. He's running the fan works page like a tyrant.
