Not quite, there's not necessarily a sacrifice involved.

For example, country A is invading a fortress held by country B. A-ians finally take the fortress only to discover most of the B-ians went with Better To Die Than To Be Killed. They show respect to those who did, but have nothing but contempt for the survivors who "didn't have the guts" to kill themselves.

Probably falls under Bungled Suicide. Being able to get up the nerve *is* a key part of it. Could also turn into a Happily Failed Suicide.

Martyrdom Culture, and also Seppuku for the historical Japanese take (Which still causes issues in the modern day due to its romanticization of suicide)

On the meta-level, you've got good old Values Dissonance and Deliberate Values Dissonance- say, we're supposed to see the culture as valuing Honor Before Reason because they hold this belief.
