Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
It's because this was a serious misuse of the "tear jerker" term. Arthur doesn't have so many sad moments that you need to trope it BY EPISODE. Most of these examples here are followed up by something funny if they are sad, or don't last long enough to actually make you sad. I kept the legit examples.
The things in my dreams wish they could chase me!I think the issue is that unilaterally deleting so very much of the page without so much as an edit reason comes off as a big red flag. Especially since we've had some issues with DW hate in the YMMV page before.
A discussion post or post in a cleanup thread (assuming there is one) might have been a good thing to do.
Edited by sgamer82For what it's worth, the cuts were discussed on the Moments Clean-Up Thread. But yeah, a link to the thread in the edit reason should have been made for such a large change.
I did. See here on the Moments cleanup thread.
(Agh, ninja-d!)
Edited by Grotadmorv The things in my dreams wish they could chase me!Yeah, they were pre-discussed... but you should always link to the discussion, Grotad.
But yeah, about the general "Moments are YMMV" thing. While that's true, even YMMV is subject to some criteria. In Moments' cases, they need to be:
- Moments that objectively occur in the work (so not Fridge, not speculation, not meta)
- Moments that actually did inspire the proper emotion in the intended audience, rather than just things that might be scary/sad/etc if you squint and stretch it. The idea here is that the moments should fit the work, and come from a genuine place. We get a lot of Nightmare Fuel examples where it's obvious the person who put them there is just really trying hard to make their favorite work seem edgier than it actually is, as well as examples that wouldn't actually scare the works' audience, compared to other examples. We're looking for genuine emotional reactions, not every little thing that may or may not have made someone feel a bit sad once.
Other than that, we're pretty fair. We just don't need pages where every single thing that happens in the show is considered either Awesome, Scary, Funny, Sad, Heartwarming, or Shocking. These moments are supposed to stand out above the rest.

A user erased several seasons worth of tearjerkers and it looks like vandalism to me. Tearjerker is YMMV, meaning it is up to the users' discretion. Can we restore the former page, please?
