Most situations should be covered in some of the Crime and Punishment Tropes, such as Hollywood Law or Good Cop/Bad Cop.

If it's any kind of artistic license I would think Artistic License Law

It has nothing to do with misapplied law but a violation of Police Procedural rules which I don't believe is the same thing.

If it's about the police, it is about the law, by default. If you look at Artistic License Law, several of the subtropes are about cops.

Do you have any other examples you're trying to place other than Alone with the Psycho? Because I think that particular Rule of Drama violation of common sense (going off without a buddy/partner without telling anyone) is already covered within the trope itself.
