Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I am tempted to just cut it.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanJust cut, it isn't even indexed and the questions are asking about the person's opinions rather than their creative content.
Current Project: The TeamI'll take care of the cut.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportAwesome.Lily Orchard has problem as well. I remove one entry that's outright about the person themselves and fix one with bad indentation. But these two are pretty weird for "awesome moment" too.
- The entirety of Lily's "Steven Universe Is Garbage And Here's Why Video". In just over two hours, Lily epically deconstructs every flaw of Steven Universe[...]
That's follow by several two bullets entries. I don't give a damn about Steven Universe, but do we count "reviewing" other work as awesome? Now that one isn't too bad(I guess) but the next one...
- Her response to Sarah Z, who rather lazily tried to debunk Lily's Steven Universe video, and her deconstruction of white progressives obsessed with watching "woke" shows rather than doing actual work to help marginalized groups.
...seems to be about the person attacking another creator. I don't think this is kosher.
It certainly isnt kosher.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here. That awesome page needs cutting. It is entirely opinion-based and attacks others. We need to make it a rule that awesome moments have to be in the context of a story.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.I was concerned about the Awesome page for a while, now I say cut. Everything listed is is attaching other creators or some degree of ROCEJ.
We need some way to clean-up and make objective Awesome like we're doing with Nightmare Fuel.
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtThere is a catch-all "moments" cleanup thread, but it hasn't really gone anywhere.
Current Project: The TeamRegarding Kuruni's post, the first example is a general example. Even if we didn't have the Examples Are Not General rule, entire videos are not moments.
That said, I'm surprised Moments aren't NRLEP.
Edited by GastonRabbit You can't always get what you want. This has been an ongoing problem with Lily that's not helped by the fact she used to edit her own pages in ways that encouraged flamewars and political soapboxing.
So I agree either cut or clean-n-lock everything but her main page and preferably lock that to while we're at it.
Edited by CryptidProductions^^ The "Steven Universe is Garbage" example does list specific moments from the video, so that's not an issue. What is an issue is how it praises Lily for bashing the show and comparing real-life political figures to the show's villains. It really feels like this example was added by someone with a major bone to pick with the SU fandom.
I mean, opinions seem pretty heavily divided. Something so controversial is awesome to some people and terrible to others, all depending on whether or not you happen to agree with Lily. So either way you slice it, that example shouldn't be there, and keeping it around is just asking for a fight. Just as the headscratchers page was too biased against the creator, this is too biased for the creator.
Current Project: The TeamIt is inevitable that with such politically charged content, the most active fans are those who like the videos specifically for the politics, and that will come out in their praise. Having said that, it's one thing to attack politicians who pander to racists, quite another to attack Lindsay Ellis.
If there is one thing I can take from this, it is that awesome moments should never be the mere stating of an opinion. Anyone can do that. It should be an achievement of some sort.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years. Also, that example seems to have been written specifically for the purpose of angering Steven Universe fans.
This is definitely not the first time I've seen this. Clay Claymore made a commentary on The Mysterious Mr. Enter's review of Drawn Together The Movie, and at one point, gives us this (link here):
Moving back to Lily, can we also do something about her YMMV page? Nearly everything there is either a ZCE or skirting over the ROCEJ line.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Maybe we can replace the part about Trump, Bolsonaro, and Johnson with "the rise of the alt-right" or "racists and politicians who pander to them"?
Keet cleanupHonestly Id cut that section on steven universe in the awesome section. It just seems to be bashing a bunch of other creators which isn't really an "awesome" moment and is simply restating an opnion. Plus it seems to be there to intentionally set off people which isnt good either.
Edited by miraculous "That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Just cut it.
Current Project: The TeamMake like with a deck of cards, and cut it.
The Steven Universe examples are gone.
Should we also remove the part about calling out Lindsay Ellis?
Keet cleanupProbably.
That take that is awful.
Edit:Actually, I saw both the video and the Tumblr entry and Lindsay Ellis is not even mentioned.
Edited by AegisP Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Hi I'm the guy who made most of the edits on the Crowning Moment of Awesome page. I read through the replies here and I wanted to apologize for unintentionally misusing the page. It won't happen again.
(Quick note: In Lily Orchard's In A Minute review of TLM, at 7:07, she says "...you sound like a pop progressive take on this movie" and has a clip of Lindsay Ellis saying 'I sold my soul for a vagina and a man I don't know.' However, I see how that entry on the page was somewhat confusing and I agree with its deletion. I apologize for the confusion.)
^ No worries, just glad to see the edit was done in good faith.
Current Project: The TeamHonestly, I’m debating the idea of such a polarizing figure having YMMV pages in the first place.
“Now! Let us engage in the art of deduction!”^ I mean, her work could legitimately have YMMV examples and Audience Reactions. But they have to be about her work, not her as a person.
Current Project: The Team
I asked this on the real life people cleanup thread, but it's pretty slow so I haven't gotten a response yet.
All of the examples on Headscratchers.Lily Orchard are basically accusing her as a person of being a hypocrite, rather than asking honest questions about her work.
I don't know much about Lily Orchard, so maybe I'm misunderstanding the points being made, but to an outsider, it looks like a flagrant ROCEJ violation.
