That doesn't sound correct. They're never explicitly shown to be bi, and you have to extrapolate it from a game mechanic of all things.
I think the "player character is whatever sexuality the player wants them to be" thing is its own trope, actually.

In FFXIV, does the 'Bi the Way' trope apply to the Warrior of light, in the sense that they are able perform the ceremony of eternal bonding (getting married) with any other player character, regardless of gender?
