Not exactly what I'm looking for. Happy Ending Override would occur if it happened between installments and the heroes were unable to defeat the villain. What I'm thinking of is the sequel/continuation showing the heroes enjoying their victory, only for this new villain to show up and try to wreck everything.

We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenzaI don't think it is. Happy Ending Override starts in a Crapsack World where the new villain won offscreen. What I'm thinking of is a work that starts with the heroes enjoying their hard-fought peace, possibly for a a while, until the new antagonist comes in ready to ruin everything.

Though I must say, "1st installment/episode ends with the day saved, 2nd one has a new villain enter" happens a real lot...

I made an Ask The Tropers thread regarding the whole
Happy Ending Override thing.

The protagonists have defeated the Big Bad, saved the world, and can finally relax after earning their happy ending. Suddenly, a new villain comes along threatening to destroy everything they've worked for, and the heroes are once again sent into action.
