Eastern RPG is also used to mean Japanese console-style RPGs even if they're made in the West. The term (or more commonly, the term JRPG) predates TVTropes and is used to refer to the RPG subgenre spawned by Dragon Quest III, hence the taxonomic confusion you're seeing when Western developers make games in the genre.
