I'm looking for a trope that usually shows up in the final or the penultimate episode of various anime series. The idea behind the trope is that the main characters have to get to their ultimate goal. It could be the McGuffin. It could be to stop our hero's love interest from being sacrificed to some dark and sinister god, or whatever. As our heroes are racing to this goal, some enemy forces will spring up to try and stop them.
Thus, our heroes are bogged down. However, time is of the essence. Thus, one of our heroes says something to the effect of, "Go on, I'll hold them off." Our heroes will say something to the effect of "Don't Die", and then go on. Then this happens again, and again, until we're down to just the main character, and maybe his love interest, until finally we get to the last battle.
I can think of at least four series where this happens, though there are definitely more:
Tenchi Universe Record of Lodoss War (OVA) Tsubasa Season 1 Outlaw Star
Anyone know what Trope I'm looking for?
