That's covered by And Man Grew Proud.
It's a fairly common plot point in jrpgs to find out that the ancient evil that threatens the world was either man-made, or created by some long lost civilization (who were presumably destroyed by it).
I've seen it Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Tales of Vesperia, Shining Resonance, and a bunch of anime.
Edited by MiinU I wouldn't mind failure so much, if I didn't fail so much.
Hello, im new. So it goes like this: - Some civilization creates a powerful magical entity to protect them. - The entity eventually gets corrupted and destroys them.
Also, what if the “entity” is not magical but a technological system? For example, humans create a network of satellites controlled by ai and able to launch nukes to prevent war/guard against aliens, and the ai gets corrupted and destroys them? It doesn’t seem exactly like Turned Against Their Masters, I mean it’s a single system, and has only one purpose: To protect its creators. And then it gets corrupted and causes their destruction.
I have been playing Neverwinter Nights 2 and it’s a trope there, and I bet I have seen it somewhere else before as well.
