When a character in a musical is about to break out into a musical number (often in the form of an "I Want" Song), another character stops their singing in the middle of it either out of annoyance, being Genre Savvy, or both.
This often appears in satirical or self-aware media. For example Shrek telling Donkey to stop singing before he can reach the main verse of his song.
