The bit that renders page URLs as titles doesn't have the length limit, the editor does. I just tested and both of those are too long; the pages can't be created.

If there's an Officially Shortened Title, create the work's page there, instead.

^ Cut it off. A Story About Treating A Female Knight Who Has Never Been Treated As A Woman fits the limit.

I'm not sure what to do after creating the page.

I'm trying to see if there's some official short-hand title, but given the work's relatively obscure and originally in Japanese that's easier said than done.

I may go with the suggestion ^, but that's not an official English title so not sure it wouldn't break the rules. Then again, this may be a case of necessity to get the page going at all.

As far as I understand the system, it goes "most recent official English title" > "most recent romanized title" > we abandon title rules at this point and rely on "whatever works".

This issue happened before with Recap.Star Vs The Forces Of Evil S 1 E 19 St Olgas Reform School For Wayward Princess. In that case, the solution was to truncate the end of the title and use the custom title to fix the lost bit.

Would that mean something along the line of bwburke94's suggestion then?

Yes, the custom title allows for a longer title than the one allowed by the editor, thus the full title can still be displayed. This is pushing a bit the Custom WikiWords function, but not one that's outright disallowed, I guess.

It's an acceptable compromise given the length limit on titles. It's at the database level, as I understand, so you can't work around it in any other way.

With all that in mind, if/when I make the page I'll use the title bwburke94 suggested. It's not an official English title, but I don't know where the proper cutoff would be for the Japanese one, which is also too long.

If a manageable official English comes along or I discover the Officially Shortened Title later, I'll move things accordingly.

I've made the page. In hindsight, I wonder if I should have gone with something like A Story About Treating a Female Knight as a Woman, cutting out the middle part instead of the end segment. But once the custom title kicks in that should be a moot point in any case.
