Not a trope if it's just a mistake. Critical Research Failure could maybe apply if they don't know that there are certain combinations that are impossible on a solvable cube, but that's really not something that's widely known or obvious to most people so I wouldn't count it.

Beyond the Impossible if the cube is supposed to be impossible to solve and someone does it anyway. (Impossible Genius if they're that smart, or Achievements in Ignorance if The Ditz does it by accident)

Likely a (mild) case of Creator's Apathy (formerly They Just Didn't Care) — assuming most people in the audience wouldn't be looking that closely and wouldn't be able to tell even if they were.
