Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.

The movie's been out for two days, it's way too early to call this.
Not to mention I'm skeptical of any "unrealistically high" reviews tilting the score. Positive review bombing isn't really a thing.
Pretty much this, positive review bombing is an unfortunate falsehood. A leftover from the hellish DC/Marvel movie fanwars.
We'd have to be naive to say that there isn't that kind of nonsense coming from both sides. Positive review bombing (is that an oxymoron?) is absolutely a thing, though in the vast majority of cases it has little to no effect.
As for OP's question, give it three months and check again. We shouldn't be making this call on the opening weekend.
"Positive review bombing is absolutely a thing, though in the vast majority of cases it has little to no effect."
This sentence contradicts itself. If it's not enough to affect the score, then it's not a review bombing.
I've seen countless examples of works getting negative review bombed, not once have I ever heard of a positive review bombing. That's not a thing that people do. People that are happy with something don't generally feel the need to voice their opinions that loud.
The only example of positive review bombing I can think of is the Cory in the House video game on Metacritic, but that's just because it's a meme.
Keet cleanup"We'd have to be naive to say that there isn't that kind of nonsense coming from both sides."
Both sides of what? The only issue I've heard of is the typical dull roar that comes from anti-feminists whenever a women lead superhero movie's released.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerIt's not impossible to believe that fans of the film are more inclined than they might otherwise be to give it a positive review to counteract the bombing of the score by anti-feminists. Indeed, I might even join them. That doesn't mean it's an organized scheme, though, and it also doesn't mean that it's unnaturally inflating the score. User reviews are not statistically valid anyway, since they are self-selected. No legitimate poll or other statistical study would ever accept such a sampling method.
Frankly, I would keep any tropes related to reception off of the YMMV subpage for at least a month to ensure that the final score is representative of people who actually saw the film.
Edited by Fighteer "It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I've started a thread to discuss the creation of an index for tropes / Audience Reactions / etc. that, for one reason or another, should have a mandatory waiting period associated with them.
Edited by HighCrateA lot of people who I’ve talked to that have seen the movie seem to be pretty indifferent some leaned towards positive while others toward negative but not many strong feelings on the film itself
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price.I concur. The general feel is either OK or enjoyable. Also as the mods discussed you can't force a positive response from general reactions. I would like a link to these "sources" however. Especially as time goes by more and more positive reactions come in. As a whole it's been minor dislike ( usual lot) meh or enjoyable. No indications online of massive dislike and if the global box office is any indication the positive reviews vastly outweigh any negativity by a lengthy amount.

Critical Dissonance under YMMV.Captain Marvel 2019 is currently commented out due to reviews being ongoing. Rotton Tomatos critics/audiences rating was 89/35% , but changed to 89/57%. However sources are saying this is due to Rotton Tomatos purging negative reviews citing them as "trolling" while leaving unrealistically high reviews untouched.
What do we make of that? Too soon to make a call on it?
