... okay, your last sentence is sorta gibberish, but antagonists only qualify for Alas, Poor Villain if the work is intentionally playing their fate for sadness. It's not an Audience Reaction.

Then how can I be sure that it's not an audience reaction and The antagonist in question is intended to be pitied?

^ There are certain cues that indicate what tone the scene is going for: sad music, characters looking mournful, etc.

I'm familiar with FMA: Brotherhood, and only about half of the entry is actually accurate, IIRC.

Hohenheim does feel bad about Father's fate, and everyone is pitying Envy in their death scene. But Gluttony's death scene is more Played for Horror towards Pride's actions, not sadness for Gluttony's fate, and I don't think Pride's "death" is meant to be sad at all, partially since they don't actually die.

So, yeah, Father and Envy are Alas, Poor Villain, and Gluttony and Pride are not.
