EXAMPLE: Prior to the 2016 season, Tom Brady was in an lengthy legal battle with the NFL over his involvement in the Deflategate scandal. At first, he was suspended for four games by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Said suspension was then vacated by an judge, then overturned by the U.S. Appeals Court. Rather than continue, Brady decided to accept his suspension for the first four regular season games of the 2016 season.
