Die for Our Ship is a YMMV trope for when fans assign or overemphasize negative traits for any character that is in the way of their preferred ship.
I suppose this could be an invoked example but it's dicey — that is about fans being willing to villainize the character in a way that doesn't match up with canon, but the author doing it is automatically canon. It might work if it was a very sudden characterization change that made no sense.

^Wait that's it.
Thanks!! I kept seeing it and I couldn’t put a name to it.
- Cat; like the animal but not
It’s where the author feels compelled to make the current significant other irredeemable mostly having negative traits and if they do have a good trait it’s typically superficial or fake. It’s like usually used to set up a scenario where the protagonist and the true love interest can get together.
