This sort of question should go to Trope Finder. It sounds like trivia, which is fun but not something we focus on.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Is there a trope for when an fictional or even real athlete's career suffers as soon as he joins the cast of a show, especially if the characters are somehow counting on his success to elevate their station?
I'm reminded primarily of "Good Times" Keith Anderson suffering a career-ending (or so they thought) knee injury on the day he married into the Evans family. But there's also Eddie Le Bec from Cheers who went from successful NHL goalie, to Icecapades penguin to dead (after Eddie's actor Jay Thomas insulted Rhea Pearlman on his radio show). An exception is Merle "The Pearl" Stockwell on Eight Is Enough. He married into the Bradford family and went from minor league superstar to pitching for the Mets. It can even happen in one episode. On Cheers, Boston Celtics star Kevin Mc Hale comes to the bar and someone asks him how many screws are in the floor he plays on. He can't get it out of his head so he starts playing poorly. The episode ends with Sam, Norm, and Cliff at Boston Garden counting the screws in the floor for Kevin.
Anyway, is this a trope? Are there other examples?
