Actually, if they're supposed to be disliked and hated, they're not The Scrappy. Pizzasoda 66 seems to have missed the actual trope description: "Thus, such characters like Joffrey Baratheon, Dolores Umbridge, Dick Hardly, Shou Tucker, and Ghetsis Harmonia — as universally hated as they are — are not considered Scrappies, since the creators of their works intended for the audience to hate them. For a character to truly be considered a Scrappy, the audience must not only hate the character, but also believe the character is detracting from the quality of the work as a whole by their presence."

If the character is intended to be hated, that's a Hate Sink, not The Scrappy. I'm not familiar with the show you're talking about, but The Scrappy trope description is pretty clear on that point.

Well, actually it's a browser/phone game and I was strictly referring to the laconic page, but never mind that. This is exactly what I was looking for and will be cited as the reason to get rid of them.

Sorry, I missed the laconic part. But you might want to wait for a mod response before you add it back — if you delete, then someone re-adds, and you delete again, that's still an edit war. You need to take it to the game's discussion page and send a notifier to the other person to join in the discussion (or at least come to ATT and this thread), then reach a consensus in discussion before adding or deleting those again.

Laconic description or not, it's the main trope page that sets the rules for the trope.

Actually, a Hate Sink could theoretically be The Scrappy if they are hated for reasons other than intended. For instance, Prime Minister Honest of Akame ga Kill! is meant to be hated for being a corrupt Evil Chancellor with no redeeming qualities, but the fanbase hates him, not for his evil, but because they consider him to be a weak Flat Character of a villain who is impossible to take seriously and takes away screen time from more interesting and popular villains like General Esdeath.

I changed the laconic a while ago to make it clear that the character must be hated "for reasons unintended by the work" to reflect the current requirements for the trope. I guess they missed that.

Maybe transfer the examples to a Hate Sink bullet instead?

Well, here's the thing that makes me think they might apply... it's the word "annoying."

You don't want your villains to be "annoying." It implies a sense of "I plain don't want this character to be on the screen." You can revile a character, they can be a Hate Sink, but if you're like "ugh, this fucking character" then they can still be The Scrappy.

That said, the rest of the writeups describe the characters' various misdeeds rather than audiences finding them annoying, implying that despite the name, the "most annoying" poll is more about "the most eeeeeeevil" which would be misuse.

I agree that the examples could probably be turned into Hate Sink, but then they would have to be rewritten to remove references to how audiences feel (such as the fan polls) since Hate Sink is an objective trope and not an Audience Reaction.
