I doubt attempting a discussion with someone this devoted to such a trivial issue is a good use of anyone’s time.

^I agree, especially because this appears to have been going on since mid October (first two edits were legitimate proofreading, then the "'passed away' sugarcoats death" thing started with the third edit).

You can't always get what you want.

If nothing else, we're looking at the direct opposite of a Bluenose Bowdlerizer.

Huh. Interesting. Several days ago, gjjones did the same thing on Trivia. The Last Jedi, replacing "passed away" with "died" and likewise giving the edit reason that it "sugarcoats death". It seems like gjjones and ADPMJDJ1998 might be one and the same. (Edit: It appears not. My apologies.)

Either way, I don't see how "passed away" sugarcoats death at all. It's not as if the meaning of passed away is subtle or obscure.

There exist standards that death must be referred to with the D-word specifically and not a euphemism (hospitals have them, I think) but since this wiki doesn't have that standard, editors shouldn't be acting as though it does.

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.

I wonder if this is a symptom of grieving or something. Like someone they know passed away and so the phrase is triggering to them. Regardless, it's inappropriate. As already mentioned, it's bowdlerizing in reverse.

I suspended them for wonkage. No evidence of ban evasion or sockpuppetry.

Hello. I would like to post my concerns on this matter here. I would agree that certain sites explicitly state that death must be referred to by the D-word. However, as pointed out earlier by other tropers, this wiki doesn't have that standard (I personally couldn't find anything in the Administrivia regarding the use of the words, either).

I would like to ask which words should we use in this matter regarding a death in general. Also, I'm probably considering about opening a proposal on the standards of which words to use regarding euphemisms in the forums. If so, which forum should be appropriate (i.e. Wiki Talk)?

I was under the impression that both were fine & that there’s no point in changing one to the other. Can anyone corroborate this?

If nothing else, I'll probably go ask on the forums and see what can be done on this matter. Make sense?

Creating a separate thread here in ATT works too.

Fair deal. I could try that.
