Turn Literature.The Art Of War and move what's currently there to Literature.The Art Of War Sun Tzu. Make your page at Literature.The Art Of War Machiavelli. Custom title each page so that the author's name is in parentheses.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I don't understand, is the work page you're making titled The Art of War or Art of War?
Both, it seems, though the more "official" title seems to The Art of War.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.The book is titled "Dell'arte della guerra". Italian language, like most sensible languages of this planet, lacks pointless and obtuse articles, hence DIRECTLY translated, it means "About art of war". Didn't prevent English version from being titled The Art of War, centuries before anyone in Europe even learned there was some Sun Tzu guy. So the book in English is titled "The Art of War". Which, as already stated, creates a lot of confusion, unless you specify the creator. Even the articles on Sun Tzu's Art of War and about Macchiavelli himself note the issues with the title.
So for now I'm not making any page, despite having it pretty much ready.
@Larkmarn That sounds like a good idea, if a bit tedious. But could be done. I'll still wait for more replies and suggestions, because it's one of tose things you don't want to start until you are 100% sure everything is fine.
Edited by DratewkaThere's no need to hold off. If the accepted title of both works in English is The Art of War, go ahead and make it according to Larkmarn's suggestion. Normally, we disambiguate by year, but we don't know the exact year of Sun-Tzu's publication, so going by author (especially since they're both so famous) makes sense in this case.
Edit: Ninja'd, I guess. Changing all the wicks is the tedious part. Having Literature.The Art Of War turned into a disambiguation page in the meanwhile is an interim measure.
Edited by HeraldAlberichSo...
- The Art of War Sun Tzu
- The Art of War Machiavelli
- Sun Tzu's The Art of War
- Machiavelli's The Art of War
?
Edited by DratewkaThe former is standard? Bracket those author names?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576The former, because when adding examples it allows writing the titles without including the authors with basic formatting, as such:
- Literature/{{The Art of War|SunTzu}}
- Literature/{{The Art of War|Machiavelli}}
For this reason alone, all disambiguation add-ons need to be put after the title.
Hiding parts of the article name is against the rules.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.^ Hiding parts of the article name using a custom title is against the rules. Using curly bracket formatting to hide the author's name in article text can be fine, as long as which work you're referring to is clearly indicated. Clear, Concise, Witty—as long as it's clear, making the title shorter and less clunky is fine.
I wouldn't hide the name in, say, an index or list of titles, but within the text of an article can be a different story.
Ok, here it goes... Knowing my luck, this is going to explode right into my face
Looks good so far. I took the liberty of rearranging the disambig page to put Sun Tzu's more famous work first, and added a brief description of each.
Oh, and Creator.Sun Tzu was a redirect to the disambig page; I fixed it.

I've got a ready page, with trope listing, for The Art of War. No, not THAT The Art Of War. The one by Machiavelli. Original title is just that - Art of War.
How the article and by extension - the link - should be titled? Are there any rules for such situations? I'm pretty certain it will lead to a lot of confusion if it's going to be just thrown under The Art Of War.
