Orphaned Etymology is part of it. A example I'm thinking is a character in a Dragonball Fanfic claiming to be from Nebraska, when Nebraska doesn't exist in the Dragonball universe.

In-universe you've got Orphaned Etymology by the character, out-universe you've got Did Not Do The Research by the author. That would be my suggestion.

Anyone run across a Fanfiction trope where a fanfiction writer uses a setting which is supposedly fantastic and inserts real world references, like Earth locations, despite the fact that the setting doesn't take place on earth. Or real world religions or politicians.
