That rule refers to trying to use the forums as a free ad server for something you're making money off of.

Sharing a work you're interested in is totally fine.

Sharing works would be OK if they are pertinent to the conversation.

@Drac Monster: That's more or less what I'm hoping—but I would like official word on the intent behind the rule.

@Septimus Heap: I'm thinking less about the case of posting in an existing thread than about the creation of new threads. (In the appropriate sub-form, of course.)

For example, let's say that I have a friend who made a video game, and I think that the game is cool. Or, for that matter, I find a game that I simply really like. Either way, I want to share it with others. As I've been reading the rules, it wouldn't be acceptable for me to make a thread about it in the Video Games sub-forum, because my primary motivation is to tell other people about it.

That's what I'm querying. Am I reading the rule correctly, or am I (as I hope, I'll confess) over-applying it?

[edit] Unless "conversation" was intended to include a sub-forum as a whole, it occurs to me...?

I'd think the same for a dedicated thread.

Ah, thank you—that's a relief to know!

And thank you for taking the time to answer; it's appreciated. ^_^
