Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Yo, just making a follow up.
I find the idea of a "franchise actors" index to be kind of pointless, to be honest. Maybe TRS it.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I find a lot of indexes to be pointless. But also harmless. This is among them.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Just as a side note, why is ASOUE on your list? It’s a book series that got films and two TV shows, seems more qualified than, well, Animaniacs. Of course, if there’s enough actors then it’s a solid index.
Edited by lakingsif OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!What do you mean by needing to remove them to make room? Are we running out of server space?
Sorry took this long to reply.
@lakingsif: I didn't know they were audio books and video games of ASOUE, so my bad.
For @Crpytic Minor: IDTS, but a franchise has to have at least an adaptation or/and a Spin-Off to be called such. Long-Runners can count too.
Edited by makarovak47Update: There's a new Desperate Housewives Actors now too. I mean, seriously? A popular show doesn't make it a franchise, as I've said above regarding the likes of House Actors, Lost Actors, et al. There's also a new Dallas Actors page and I personally find it irrelevant too, but at least it's a long runner and has a Spin-Off (Sequel Series rather).
I thought Desperate Housewives was a reality show?
OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!No, you're talking about The Real Housewives. 😂
Two comments:
- Why are these Useful Notes? Does a list of Animaniacs voice actors help readers understand the connection between real life and fictional media? Does it help writers portray anything in their works?
- Isn't it kind of redundant to have these when we have character sheets? Our character sheets already name the actors associated with each character.
- Personally I suspect that some people use Useful Notes as a dumping ground for anything that does not cleanly fit elsewhere.
- I am actually inclined to agree with this.
1. IDK, and just to be clear I find many of the pages there useful, it's just that a handful (see my examples above) are irrelevant and doesn't really fit the franchise category (they're just popular works).
2. Character Sheets are for the characters they play, these pages are index pages for the complete list of actors who appeared in the series franchise.
@Septimus Heap: I know, and thank you for understanding my point.
P.S., turns out Dallas had two Spin-Offs (Knots Landing and the aforementioned 2012 Sequel Series) so I guess its actors index page can get a pass.
All of these are pointless.
We all know that IMDB is a thing, right? We don't need to be an index of actor appearances.
Edited by Fighteer "It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"But they're fun, aren't they. Indexes that are basically a character page seem pointless, but for a franchise or adaptation index, it's fun and a bit useful.
OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!I don't really see the use for them, but I don't really see the harm either. I would have thought that unless they are causing either server trouble or detracting from the site in someway (like being flamebait, etc) then there really is no problem.
Should I just send those pages straight to the CutList? That's originally what I thought anyway, but decided that maybe consult things first.
Since I'm not getting any clear answers, I just went ahead and sent these pages to the CutList.
It seems that the House and Desperate Housewives pages have been recreated after being cut.
@costanton11: Yup.
Edited by makarovak47Should anything be done with the recreated pages?
@costanton11: Send them back to the CutList I guess.
Edited by makarovak47@crazysamaritan: Sorry I wasn't able to reply. I checked the page history. He did majority of the pages (as in about 75% of them), mostly useful and justified except for the Animaniacs, Desperate Housewives, Dexter, House, Lost, and Neon Genesis Evangelion pages. cwf123 created the Samurai Jack page, while James Austin created the Westworld one.
Update: This Saveelich quadrupled the other non-long runner, non-anthology, and non-series/movie franchise pages. Is this some sort of retaliation?
Why don't you PM them and ask them to this conversation?
I suspended them immediately for edit-warring. We can talk about it later.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"If these lists are not acceptable because they don't fit any of these categories, then so be it. Sorry for my late answers to this issue and recreations of cut pages.
@ makarovak47
It wasn't intended as a retaliation, I was trying to create new indexes to have them fit. But if these lists have to go, then I will let go.
@nombretomado and @Fighteer: Sorry for the late reply guys, work stuff.
@Saveelich: Hello, and I'm sorry for thinking that (the "retaliation" thing). Anyways, I personally think that you made several great and useful index pages, and actually commend you for having the patience to create them. It's just that some of them doesn't really fit the "Franchise" definition and doesn't really ran that long to warrant a page.
There are index pages here for actors who starred in various film/TV series. While I personally think they're cool and useful, a number of pages there seem irrelevant, as in not enough "big" (e.g. no Spin-Off, any media adaptation, or at least two remakes) of a series or/and a long running show (in particular Animaniacs, Desperate Housewives, House, Lost, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Samurai Jack, and Westworld) to warrant such pages.
Anyway, I'm suggesting to take out the ones I cited (with all due respect to the people who made them) to make room for actual, "more proper" franchise pages.
