Bump. Doesn't it ring a bell with anyone?

it doesn't match 100% but it sounds a little like "in enemy hands", book 7 of david weber's honor harrington series, it's not YA though.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I've checked and that's not it. Thanks, though.

Any other suggestions? I'd appreciate it.

The basic story concept does sound really familiar, it actually reminds me quite a bit of two early episodes of the "new" Outer Limits (the 90s revival) that were part of the same arc involving a space war between Earth and an alien species. But there are a lot of different details and the OP says this was a YA sci-fi novel. So I'm curious if maybe the Outer Limits episodes "Qualify of Mercy" (Season 1) and "The Light Brigade" (Season 2) which both featured the character of John Skokes, played by Robert Patrick, were in some way a loose adaptation of this book, whatever its title is? But I'm not sure if there was source material for these scripts or if they were original stories and don't have the time right now to research it.

That's an interesting idea. I took a quick look, since I've never seen The Outer Limits, and there are definitely some similarities. I didn't find any source material listed for either one, but I'll do some more digging. I appreciate the suggestion.

I'd say I read the book no more than 10 years ago and I'm not sure how old it was at the time. I'm wondering, though if the TV series might pre-date it. To inspire a mid-nineties TV episode, let's say the latest it could have been written was 1990. I originally got the book from my local library (but can find no trace of it now) and I'm not sure they would have had it in 2008+ unless it was some kind of classic, though it is always possible.

I also seem to remember "Earth" in the title, but I can't be sure about that and wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong.

Thanks for the help!

It sounds kinda like the MILA 2.0 trilogy, which had a similar sacrificial ending, but I don't think that's it. Maybe The Bar Code Tattoo?

It's older than the MILA 2.0 trilogy and while The Bar Code Tattoo fits the time frame better, the protagonist I'm looking for is an adult. I really think it involves space travel. I wish I could remember more. Thanks anyway, though!

Here are some ideas: Captured, Abducted, and Captured by the Alien Lord. All of these books include a female character being captured by aliens. Most of the books I found were romance novels or were part of a series. Could you try to describe the cover or maybe how old the book was?

I wish I could remember more. I believe it was written in the early to mid-2000s, but since I got it from the library, it could have been older. I'm not exactly sure what the cover looked like, I remember it being a blue-black color and there may have been a ship or space station on it. I want to say the title had "Earth" in it, but that could be wrong. I do remember you couldn't tell what the book was about from the title and there was no romance involved, just sci-fi/adventure/heroics. Thanks for the suggestions.

If you smudge up your memory just right, it fits Stephan R. Donaldson's "Forbidden Knowledge", but you would have to be wrong about it being YA. It is right up against the border where PG13 meets R.

There was a tie-in YA novel series during the run of the 90s version of Outer Limits. Maybe it's one of those?

No go on the last two replies. Thanks anyway. Anyone else have suggestions?
