Hmm. I've recently been in a class about anime where both my teacher and our textbook specifically addressed this tendency for anime, so it definitely is a trope. I don't know if we've got a page describing it, though. It might be good to throw it up on YKTTW if nobody knows of an existing page.

Current project: Cleaning up the Chrono Crusade examples one at a time. God help me.

Ghibli Hills. Miyazaki is notorious for it. Though he's hardly the only one.
