Here is a tv airing of the Clampett Horton cartoon with the suicide cut out (though it's in pretty low quality)

Here is another adaption of Horton, it has limited animation though.

Limited animation adaption of 'Yertle the Turtle and other stories', the Gertrude story starts at about 8:40 minutes in. Though it doesn’t seem to be the one you described (no shaving scene)
Oh, you rock! Can I give a 'thumbs up' to you on this forum?
Yes, happily all set with Horton (I also have the Chuck Jones Horton sequel now!) Can't find the Gertrude Mc Fuzz I'm thinking of, but that's fine. I'm really wondering now if I'm remembering a different bird cartoon. Was Mayzie in any other Chuck Jones shorts? The scene I'm recalling has been an inside joke in my family for years...
Ah, well. I'm happy to have my Horton. Thank you!

Hi Tropers! I’m an ELA teacher in search of what seem to be very rare and mysterious Chuck Jones adaptions of Dr Seuss books. My hours of online searching have left me frustrated and someone pointed me to this thread.
My fifth graders are doing Seussical and I’m trying to find the classic animated “Horton Hatches the Egg” and “The Tail of Gertrude Mc Fuzz,” since those are the subjects of the play.
Also, it’s been years since I’ve seen these classics, but while I usually hate censorship, I was wondering if anyone had seen them recently and had any advice about whether or not they’d still be “kosher” in a public school. Some red flags…
1. I read online that in the original “Horton Hatches the Egg” cartoon, there’s a strange scene where a fish commits suicide by shooting himself in the head. Apparently there is another version of “Horton” that doesn’t have this scene. Sorry, but I can’t show that to fifth graders :(
2. And I really need help recalling this one: I remember a Gertrude Mc Fuzz cartoon my own kids used to have, but can’t find any traces of it anywhere online. I’m sure it’s Chuck Jones like “Horton.” I also want to preview this first before showing to students, as I recall some rude humor, specifically a scene where Gertrude gets her tail feathers shaved off and it exposes her bare fanny, made even more embarrassing for the bird when the shaver starts slapping her fanny with Calamine lotion :P Anyone remember this cartoon and where to find it?
Thanks Tropers!
