I'm pretty sure you're looking for Rainbow Island
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Islands:_The_Story_of_Bubble_Bobble_2
)
and Superfrog (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superfrog
)

So yeah, as the title suggests, for the last few years, I've been trying to remember these two games that I remember playing as a kid (they were like some of the very first games I ever played, they were my gateway games) but I can't remember the name of and in one case, I'm starting to wonder if it was like this childish fever dream.
The first one was a side scroller where you play as a frog with a red cape (or some kind of cape) but now I'm starting to wonder if it was a bee in a cape. The gameplay was simple, just hit the enemies as they come on screen and the general look of it was like this forest setting. No matter how I rearrange the search, simply searching for "A game with a frog" in it just brings up Frogger.
The second is harder to describe but it was one of those games where you're just jumping upwards and hitting things as they come, it was a very colourful game, all I think I can remember was like rainbows, giant gum balls and generally a world that would come right out of one hell of an LSD trip.
Both games I think are for the Atari, mostly I just remember the joystick which was the black, square base with the joystick in the middle and a red button in the corner and both games were older than 1995 or so.
