This reminds me a bit of the Ravenholm scene in Half-Life 2...
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."

I only have second-hand knowledge of the game in question from a story my fiance told me. Some years ago she played a game with a friend of hers. The scene in question involved the player character meeting someone in a church garden at midnight. She didn't see enough of the game to know the genre or the characters names. What she does remember is how the place looked: It was apparently a darker atmosphere, and the area featured a large flower garden inside the church walls, surrounded by cloistered walkways. The scene, as I mentioned before had the player character arriving there for a scheduled meeting with another character at midnight.
That's about all I know about it. It was back in the early 2000s that she remembers seeing it, and on a playstation console so that would make it either a PS 1 or a PS 2 game. The 'midnight meeting' might suggest that there was some kind of 'time' system or day and night cycle in place, but it could have also just been a scripted event. I've tried suggesting a few games that I know of that have prominent scenes taking place in churches, such as Final Fantasy VII and the Legacy of Kain series but no luck.
I know it's a long shot because I don't really have much information outside of what she's told me, but if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.
