For your second song, Under the Kilt by Dr. Macdoo comes to mind. Not sure if this helps, but it's the only thing I could think of.

That's not it; the song I have in mind is all slow and serious. Should have mentioned that, but thank you!

I'm pretty sure I've heard the first one somewhere before, but I can't remember what it was. Youtube and Wikipedia aren't being useful either, sorry. :(

Now I'm determined to find this song. After thinking on it, maybe Flogging Molly's Wanderlust is it? There's an acoustic and a studio version. He doesn't exactly rap, though. Hm.

Definitely not Flogging Molly, unfortunately. The guy in the song was just speaking rather forcefully but in a melancholy way.

Good to know I'm not alone, Mazz!

The second one could be something by Arab Strap, except they're Scottish, not Irish.

I gave a few of their songs a listen, and it's not Arab Strap either, but thank you for the suggestion. There was minimal background music, it was probably just a drumbeat or something.

I may be completely wrong, but for some reason the second song brings to mind "The White Room" by The KLF - Bill Drummond is British, but can kind of sound Irish. Another possibility that comes to mind is a band called Looper, whose trademark sound is trip-hoppy music where the Scottish-accented vocalist mainly just does spoken word: Looper was the project of Stuart David of Belle And Sebastian, and Belle And Sebastian's "A Spaceboy Dream" was pretty much the blueprint for the Looper stuff, so I guess that could be it too.

Nope, neither of those are it, Mike K. The man had a deeper voice and the background music wasn't electronic. Thank you for trying, though!

Is the second song (and this is a pretty wild guess) "Turning of the Tide" by Richard Thompson?

Neither of those are it, but thank you guys.

The second sounds a little like “Rave On, John Donne” by Van Morrison.

I'd just like to comment that this thread provides a fascinating cross-section of music.

Unfortunately a miss as well, Bananaquit. It was definitely more modern. I'm thinking it had a very subdued hip-hop style beat in the background.

And it is, isn't it, Floyd?

Okay, this is a bit of a wild shot, but is the first one "Arrasando" by Thalia? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fn1h3AQk_TQ&ob=av2e

Fast Spanish songs -> maybe something from Heroes Del Silencio? Here's a sample in case you don't know them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrwVZ4qUTMs

Unfortunately none of those are right, the Irish song was played entirely seriously, and in the Spanish song had a male vocalist and was not as alt-rock sounding (I like this, though!). Thank you though!
