First possibility that comes to mind is The Learning Tree from 1969, which has a scene where the lead is in a hayloft and witnesses a fight that turns into an accidental murder.
Thanks for the suggestion. It's not that one, I'm pretty sure the child was a white boy with blond straw like hair, but it could be a distorted memory of course. I also want to say that he couldn't speak, either out of fear or because he was a mute, but again I'm not certain of that.
Could be Film or TV and I have very little to go on here but I'll have a go anyway. I've had this image ingrained in me since I was a child as it disturbed me. It's a young boy who seems to be sleeping on some hay, perhaps in a barn or basement or on a ship (honestly could be anywhere). He seems to be locked in or trapped in some way and frightened. It's possible there's an adult talking to him. I must have seen this on TV in the mid 90s, but I think it could be a film or television show from the 60s or 70s.
If this image rings any bells I'd love to hear suggestions. I could then look them up and see if they are familiar. It's bothered me for the best part of 20 years that I can't seem to figure it out. It could be famous or it could be completely obscure!
