I was wondering why you would have folders that are numbered, instead of having meaningful labels, so I went to look and discovered that they aren't numbered per se, but labeled with the titles of the show's seasons, which are named "Volume 1", "Volume 2", etc.

That being so, the correct way to render the numbers is however RWBY itself renders them in the titles.

That would be numerical, I believe.

Agree with Paul A: the correct approach here is whatever the writers/editors/publishers of the work chose. We're not here to second-guess anyone.

That said, Running_Gag's so-called "rule" is both not a rule (it's a matter of style) and is nowhere near as precise as claimed. Different style guides have different suggestions for when you should switch between digits and spelled-out words. And not only do the three most commonly used style guides for American English disagree with each other on this topic, but none of them match Running_Gag's rule....

Going with the work's default presentation style seems like a good idea to me. I'll keep an eye on the page and see if there are any further issues. If there are, I'll link to this topic thread. Thanks for the responses.

@Xtifr

It's not Running_Gag's "rule", it's Zaptech's.

My understanding of proper grammar rules is that you spell out the numerals if it's under 100, unless it's part of a title or some other official documentation. I may be incorrect.

Whoops, my apologies to Running_Gag.

@Zaptech: Like a lot of stylistic "rules", that's an acceptable rule to follow for your own writing, if you want to, but it is by no means "the" rule, and you should not expect others to follow it. This article by Grammar Girl will give you an quick overview of the far-more-complicated (and varied) rules that tend to be used by professional publishers.

The rule is for numbers in themselves, or amounts. If the number goes alongise some other word (as in this case) it's "Volume 1", not "volume one"

The rule applies for:

1) personal writing 2) The style the site uses, when applicable

The rule does not apply to an original creator's stylistic choice. Especially since hidden meaning or humor may be contained within.

The volume names are titles, just like the title of a work or the chapter titles of a book. As such, the original creator's style choices should stand.
