Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

I was wondering why you would have folders that are numbered, instead of having meaningful labels, so I went to look and discovered that they aren't numbered per se, but labeled with the titles of the show's seasons, which are named "Volume 1", "Volume 2", etc.
That being so, the correct way to render the numbers is however RWBY itself renders them in the titles.
Agree with Paul A: the correct approach here is whatever the writers/editors/publishers of the work chose. We're not here to second-guess anyone.
That said, Running_Gag's so-called "rule" is both not a rule (it's a matter of style) and is nowhere near as precise as claimed. Different style guides have different suggestions for when you should switch between digits and spelled-out words. And not only do the three most commonly used style guides for American English disagree with each other on this topic, but none of them match Running_Gag's rule....
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Going with the work's default presentation style seems like a good idea to me. I'll keep an eye on the page and see if there are any further issues. If there are, I'll link to this topic thread. Thanks for the responses.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Whoops, my apologies to Running_Gag.
@Zaptech: Like a lot of stylistic "rules", that's an acceptable rule to follow for your own writing, if you want to, but it is by no means "the" rule, and you should not expect others to follow it. This article
by Grammar Girl will give you an quick overview of the far-more-complicated (and varied) rules that tend to be used by professional publishers.
The rule is for numbers in themselves, or amounts. If the number goes alongise some other word (as in this case) it's "Volume 1", not "volume one"
Ultimate Secret WarsThe rule applies for:
1) personal writing 2) The style the site uses, when applicable
The rule does not apply to an original creator's stylistic choice. Especially since hidden meaning or humor may be contained within.

What's the wiki's approach to the naming of folders that use numbers: for example, "Folder 1" or "Folder One"?
The reason I asked is because, on the RWBY Nightmare Fuel page
a while back, Running_Gag suddenly changed a group of folders from spelling out the number ("One") to the number itself ("1"). There was no edit reason, so the edit was reverted by Zaptech, using the following edit reason:
General English grammar rule: Unless its an official or technical document, numerical amounts under the value of 100 should be spelled out. Under 1,000 can use numbers or be spelled out depending on how formal and/or technical you're being. Once you get past 1,000, then you can use the numbers.
The12th Doctor has just reverted the folders back to the numerical style (Folder 1), without an edit reason.
Since this seems to be an issue, what's the correct approach?
