That's... very vague. Anything else to go on? Snippet of a half-remembered lyric?

Want to rename a trope? Step one: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This is a long shot because it's a hip hop song and not remotely folksy, but "Magic" by B.O.B. and Rivers Cuomo? It is a recent hit where the vocalist keeps comparing himself to a magician.

Nope, not it. I know this is vague, which is why I couldn't search for the song on google. I heard it several years ago, 2007, maybe, although I'm pretty sure it was an older song. In the chorus the singer is saying that he's a magician, or magic man. I think there was a girl involved.

Heart, "Magic Man"?

Or possibly The Lovin' Spoonful: "Do you believe in Magic?"

Nope, neither of those.

It's not "Magic Man" by Heart, is it? That one's sung by a female, and your description keeps using the word he to describe the vocal.

Abracadabra, by the Steve Miller Band?

It's a good thing our last name isn't Drew, because then you'd be Nancy Drew and I'd be Andrew Drew. -Andy Botwin

It definitely is not "Magic Man" by Heart, and it's not the Steve Miller Band song either. The singer was definitely a man, and the song sounded like a folksy ballad type. I thought it might be "Song of the Magician" by Tim Buckley, but that doesn't seem to be it either.

Atlantis” by Donovan mentions a magician and is definitely a folksy ballad though I doubt it’s what you’re looking for.

Possibly also “The Wizard” by Uriah Heep.

What about "You can do Magic, you can have anything that you desire. Magic"

Garsh, I just love guessing games.

If you can read this, please tell me to get OFF tv tropes and do my homework.

No, it's neither of those. I appreciate all the replies from everyone, though.

Still not it. Again, singer was a man. I remember some vague lyrics that might have been about how the narrator is either a magician, or he can do magic, and something about using magic to keep his girl's heart. That might have been only one lyric, and the rest of the song might have had nothing to do with magic. I don't know why I can't remember the lyric, I remember writing it down, but I don't have the paper anymore.

Well, at least I've got some good song links out of this :)

Uh, Black Magic Woman?

Deep into that darkness, peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

If you remember the tune, or a little part of the tune, give this site a go: http://www.midomi.com/

That's a really neat site, but unfortunately I don't remember the tune, although I'd feel like I'd know it if I heard it, somehow. I'm beginning to think I imagined this, somehow.

No, more folksy, and definitely not "Magic Dance".

Possibly “Magic Man” by Caravan?

Is it a male or female vocalist? Was there an unusual instrument used or a notable solo? Was it an old song or one from the last 15 years or so?
