Is there any indication at all that the ascots in Scooby Doo are intended to be interpreted that way? The examples state it as a fact, not as speculation...

it was probably derived form the context of the era. Was the stereotype widely perpetuated during the 60s?

"Daphne and Freddie from Scooby-Doo are swingers because they wear ascots."

Just, what? It's a show aimed at kids in an era where the censors were very picky, and has a lot less -as in none- circumstantial evidence going for it then the marijuana smoking theory.

Plus there's the whole fitting the trope business.

I'd say remove those.

yeeeaaaah, unless someone can bring up any shred of evidence at all that ascots were code for swingers, nuke that.

They weren't. Ascots were fashionable, even for school-age kids. They might have been a code for swingers in some communities, but if so it was a closely kept secret. (And I'm old enough to have lived through it. I wore a scarf the same way Daphne does when I was still in grade school. So did a lot of my classmates.)
