It is a little bit too speculative for an ending trope.

Yeah, there's a lot of speculation going on there, as well as the fact that the example seems to be twisting the facts a bit (such as leaving out the fact that Mabel had no idea what the rift was when she handed it over) to support a certain interpretation. I'd personally say lose it.

If it's omitting facts to justify a viewpoint, then it should be removed. Hands down.
