Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Sargon was permitted largely through the grandfather clause. I don't mind revisiting the issue, of course. I'd like to see it cleaned up, but I worry about killing a ton of inbounds.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"For me it's a double edged sword.
On one hand I consider people like him and Milo Yiannopoulos (who WAS cut) just random political pundits feeding off controversy that aren't notably enough to worth troping anymore than random political blogger #629. I think the only pundit worth covering is Alex Jones and that's only because the man is a Fountain of Memes on par with Ghost
On the other hand I'm against censorship and feel people should be able to trope whatever they want as long as it doesn't run afoul of the porn/pedobait rules and they can remain civil.
It's a tough call.
There's a distinction between censorship and us choosing the content we allow. It's not like people can't find information about Sargon elsewhere. If we say "no articles about online content creators whose primary topic is RL instead of media", that's consistent. We aren't shutting out any specific points of view.
TVT is primarily about tropes in creative media.
Edited by Fighteer "It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"If it is the case that, in the alleged words of the creator in themselves, what we're troping is not his narratives but "shitposting" rants then I don't see a problem cutting the page on those grounds. I don't really see the problem with abandoning the inbounds, although I respect that it might cause the site problems to do so, because if it is just shitposting then it is importing drama on those inbounds from people that just like seeing the shit.
Edited by CrypticMirrorMaybe not specifically for Sargon of Akkad, but aren't some of these YouTubers creating characters that they use as part of their Web Video show? Some of these channels include Armoured Skeptic, Shoe0nHead, and Chris Ray Gun (the latter two have admitted to creating characters for entertainment purposes, and AS has obviously fictional characters in plenty of his videos). Or is that too much of a "technicality"? (I'm not being sarcastic or edgy; I'm just asking about the nuance, really.)
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyLooking though the page, this reads like listing someone's opinions rather than tropes. "He argues," "He stated," and "He considers" are used in far too many points to sound like a work or creator.
Also, the whole page, but especially the Ymmv subpage with mentioning the alt-right, feels like a flame war waiting to happen.
I vote cut it to be safe.
Still not involving myself in the conversation, but I'm the one who added the multiple cases of "he states" or "he argues" because earlier editors used objective language to (in my opinion) make his statements sound indisputable. "He points out", "he demonstrates" and things like that.
For obvious reasons, I get the feeling that a lot of people politically aligned with him edit the page.
That said, I'm back to recusing myself. Just wanted to make that clear.

So a while ago, we discussed whether or not to delete several vlogger pages based on the idea that the vloggers were just people talking about things and not creating a work.
At the time, it was argued that Sargon Of Akkad should be allowed because he occasionally does Let's Plays of videogames. But, a recent editor stated that (in the words of Sargon himself) the channel we're troping here is his "shitposting" one, in which he makes political statements or rants against groups he dislikes. If that's true, should the matter be revisited?
(FYI, I fully admit to not watching, agreeing with or particularly liking Sargon. So I will recuse myself from the discussion.)
