So I've been watching Merlin the BBC show, and I've been enjoying it but I've had one major issue. Their is no Christianity, which is really weird given the setting. It's set in a post Roman but pre Saxon Britian. Uther Pendragon, The King of Camelot is committed to stamping out magic and The Old Religion. Now an Old Religion implies a new religion, but this new religion is never mentioned. Pendragon's anti magic crusade is a purely personal thing, he has no larger ideological justification of any kind.
Now, it's obvious what that that new religion should be. Christianity, a faith that did cleanse older pagan faiths from the British isles. But it never appears, not a priest not even a cross in the background. It's kind of annoying.
This isn't the first semi historical thing that does this, some versions of Marvel Comics have Captain America fight Hydra and never even mention Hitler. So my question, is their a name for this kind of thing? When semi historical fiction air brushes out whole parts of the history it nominally bases itself on?
