I'd bet you mean Lene Lovich song "Lucky Number" which came out around '78 and first started becoming known around '79
Thanks, but I swear I have never heard this thing. I am almost positive the singer was male. And it appears this song wasn't a hit in the Us. Whatever I'm thinking of had to have either been a noteworthy hit in the US, or at least get enough album rock airplay to be a common-ish classic. I also highly doubt it sounded anything like new wave. Also, I don't know if this will really help or not, but there is a pretty good chance I was hearing it on the Sirius XM channel The Bridge, which is '70s(and I think '60s) 'mellow rock'. But I might be dead wrong. Also, if I really was hearing it on The Bridge, that increases the chance of it having not really been a hit, but I really feel like if I was hearing it there, I was also hearing it elsewhere.
Edited by ProbeMeRogerSmithHey, I don't know if it's allowed for me to bump up such an old thread of mine, but now that I figured out I can use this clip recording site, I thought I'd try getting better help finding this. Here is my attempt at replicating the vocal part I remember:
A long shot but is it Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads? (Just going by the Ay Yi Yi part)
I second Psycho Killer. There are a few parts in the song that sound like Ay-yi-yi.
Good guess but still not it. I am almost completely certain that in whatever this was, the 'ay-yi-yi' part was almost like background vocals a few times during the verses.
Probably "Butterfly" by Smile.dk
Sorry, still not it. Whatever this was had to be an older pop or rock song, probably with male singer, something pretty famous. Thanks though.
It's probably not this, this is more 60s style and wouldn’t be on the radio ... but just in case - https://youtube.com/watch?v=kj5pXytIY_4 (aye aye eyes from Dexter's Lab)
Edited by mlaThanks, but still not it. Like I said, the 'aye aye yi' was more background vocals or something, if it was the same singer(think it was) they were doing some kind of vocal effect. Oh man I hope this is found, really had the idea it was something obvious. Will feel so weird finally solving the mystery.
C-crazy Train??
"Big Girls Don't Cry" by The Four Seasons? That song is from 1962 though.
What about Haircut 100- Love Plus One?
THANK YOU! It's Big Girls Don't Cry. Knew it would be something sort of obvious-ish. Thanks so much everyone for help. Was worried I was losing my mind.
I remember hearing this song sometimes off and on throughout my childhood. I'm really sure it was from like the '70s, and probably pop rock or something. All I remember is a high pitched, maybe scratchy sounding singer going "Aiy-yi-yi!' during parts of the song. Does anyone have any idea what song this was? Thanks.
