Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Pokemon's success has been mostly constant, but that's mostly because new fans come in each year to replace the ones that "grow out of it".
Speaking personally, there was definitely a period in mid/high school where admitting you played Pokemon would get you mocked. Among that age group, Pokemon was not all that popular. But in college, people are less concerned about being "childish" and more open about geeky hobbies, and you'll find plenty of Pokemon players around if you look for them.
It's not that the franchise in general ever became unpopular: it's illustrating how popularity fluctuates among age groups.
So I think the page image should be replaced.
Just another day in the life of Jimmy NutrinI think you misinterpret the image. It speaks not of a general backlash against Pokemon, but about people liking or disliking it when they grow older.
But if you have a suggestion for a better image, please open an image picking thread.
The page image for Popularity Polynomial talks about Pokemon going from loved to hated to loved again. But did that ever really happen? I don't think there was ever a backlash against it. In fact, it seems more like a constant upwards trend.
The image seems more to illustrate how College is like Elementary School.
I may create an image picking thread about it.
