Thanks.

Is it possibly Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure ?

Dual aired when on Tech TV back before it merged with G4, so he might be thinking about a later series (because they kept Anime Unleashed for a few years after the merger).

That and I'm pretty positive there wasn't a beach episode at all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime_Unleashed ^List of anime that aired on G4. The fact that you said arcade made me think of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magical%E2%98%86Shopping_Arcade_Abenobashi . If I remember, each episode was a different genre, so there might have been a giant robot episode.

no it was not Abenobashi. I own Abenobashi on dvd, I would know.

Could you describe the robots?

it was like they were controlled by an arcade machine, I think. Like I said earlier and they were like gundams, but slightly more humanoid, like in Evangelion.

It Might be one of the Machine Robo Series, putting in Arcade Machine Robot Anime dinged it so it's worth a shot...

It says the most recent version was in 2003, but it goes back to the mid 80s so it's entirely possible Tech TV might have broadcast SOME version of it.

I think you might be thinking about Jinki Extend?

Jinki extend sounds very close, but the name doesn't ring any bells. I'll have to check.

could it be Betterman? i seem to remember that being on Tech TV

Wait, I'm an idiot. It's definitely Betterman. I can't believe I didn't get that, it's a personal favorite of mine. Keita and Hinoki wake up on a beach after the credits, the only members of the cast to definitively survive the Bestman/Algernon debacle.

Thank you, I looked into Betterman and couldn't find a description of that scene anywhere, but you just cleared it up.

It's mentioned a couple times on the work page for this site, so don't worry.
